ADMISSION PROCEDURE
The admission policy at Ladybird Group of Schools is meticulously designed to ensure that all students who attend the school have the capacity to thrive within, and benefit from, the high moral standards and academic excellence that Ladybird Group of Schools offers.
Our admission procedures take into account three main strands when evaluating a potential student:
Assessment Results: How they perform on our required entrance examinations.
Interview: Consultation and observation of the student (Early Years) or the formal written assessment (Primary/Secondary/High School).
Previous Record of Attainment and Achievement: Review of historical academic reports, achievements, and disciplinary records.
Phase 1: What You Need to Apply (Application Checklist)
All students must submit a complete application package. You need to complete the application form before the student can take the interview or be scheduled for observation. You can apply easily online or pick up a paper form from our admission office in Yaoundé.
Here is the list of documents you must provide:
Completed Application Form: Fill this out online or at the Admissions Office.
Four Passport-Sized Photographs of the student.
A Copy of the Child’s Birth Certificate.
Copies of the Last Two Years School Reports.
Transcripts of GCE Ordinary Level Results (This is only required for students applying for Lower Sixth).
A Copy of the Parent or Guardian Passport/National Identity Card.
Interview fee of 10,000XAF
Phase 2: Assessment by School Level
The assessment process is tailored to the age and educational requirements of each section of the school:
1. Admission into EARLY YEARS (Nursery 1 and Nursery 2)
Admission for Pre-Nursery is considered on a case-by-case basis.
Initial Consultation: Entry is initially guided through consultation with the Head of Primary who will advise parents on the suitability and readiness of the child for the desired level.
Observation Period: As a mandatory part of the admissions procedure, potential students will spend some time with the class they wish to enter. This allows our teaching and support staff to:
Observe the child's behaviour and interaction with their peers.
Gauge their ability to communicate and understand English.
Final Decision: Admission is based on the consultation, the file review, and the teaching staff’s observation.
2. Admission into PRIMARY, SECONDARY, and HIGH SCHOOL
This procedure applies to candidates seeking entry into Grade 1 to Grade 6, Form 1 to Form 5 (Secondary), and Lower Sixth to Upper Sixth (High School).
Mandatory Written Interview: Admission is strictly through a Written Interview (Entrance Examination).
Eligibility: Candidates must have completed the application form (online or physically) and submitted all required documents (as listed above) prior to being scheduled for the interview.
Assessment Focus: The interview will assess the candidate's core proficiency in areas relevant to the intended grade level, primarily focusing on Literacy/English Language and Mathematics/Numeracy.
Record Review: The written interview results are evaluated alongside the student's previous academic reports (last two years plus current year).
Phase 3: Communication of Results
Following the assessment process, parents will be formally notified of the admissions decision. Successful candidates will receive a letter of acceptance detailing the required steps for enrollment and fee payment deadlines.
FAQs
How is admission determined for Primary, Secondary, and High School students?
Admission for students entering Grade 1 up to Upper Sixth is determined primarily through a Mandatory Written Interview (Entrance Examination). We also carefully review the student’s academic performance from their previous two years of schooling.
Is there a written exam for Early Years (Pre-Nursery, Nursery 1, Nursery 2) applicants?
No, Early Years applicants do not take a written exam. Admission is based on a Consultation with the Head of Primary, a File Review of all submitted documents, and a mandatory Observation Period where our staff can assess the child's readiness, communication skills, and social interaction within the classroom environment.
What subjects are covered in the Written Interview?
The Written Interview is designed to assess core foundational skills. The main areas of focus are Literacy/English Language and Mathematics/Numeracy, tailored to the specific grade level the student is applying to enter.
The Application Form (either online or physical) and all required supporting documents must be submitted prior to the student being scheduled for the written interview or the Early Years observation period.
When must the Application Form be completed?
What documents are required for an applicant applying to Lower Sixth?
Admission into Pre-Nursery is handled on a case-by-case basis. Parents must first attend an Initial Consultation with the Head of Primary, who will advise on the child's suitability and readiness for that specific level before any observation is scheduled.
What is the process for students applying to Pre-Nursery?
In addition to the standard checklist (Application Form, photographs, Birth Certificate, and school reports), candidates applying for Lower Sixth must also submit their Transcripts of GCE Ordinary Level Results.
